Kama Sutra

He gives the woman either less than is wanted, or something else than that which she asked for; he keeps her in hopes by promises; he pretends to do one thing, and does something else. There are many signs like these which are considered to be those of a waning lover. Or, take the example of a woman who seeks the company of men who are superior to her lover in learning and wisdom, or shows disregard for him on several occasions; she frequently expresses dissatisfaction at the usual sexual mannerisms which her lover is used to; she hates giving him her mouth to kiss or refuses access to the part of the body between the navel and the thighs. All these are signs of a woman trying to get rid of her lover! The next question which might come from you is what is the source of these conclusions? These are according to Kama sutra, also known to the Western world as Kama Sutra, a group of texts, which has its origin in ancient India. The text is widely considered to be the standard work on love and sexual relationship between a man and a woman. Authored by Mallanaga Vatsyayana Kama Sutra, as we know it today has an interesting beginning. It is believed to be the uttering of Nandi, the sacred Bull, who stood guard at the door of God Shiva and overheard his master and his wife Parvati engaged in making love. Nandi then pronounced his uttering for the benefit of mankind. The compendium was then collected in the 2nd century in its present form. There are many who believe that Kamasutra is nothing but a book which details the many sexual positions which can be practiced to get the maximum pleasure out of the sexual act. In fact, Kama sutra is much more than that. The Mallanaga Vatsyayana's Kama Sutra has 36 chapters, organized into 7 parts which deal with a variety of topics pertaining to the relationship between a man and woman, over and above the sexual practices. Some of the highlights of contents of Kama Sutra include: importance of the 3 worldly attainments of Virtue, Wealth, and Love, arrangements of a house, and its contents; classes of women fit and unfit for copulation; kinds of union according to dimensions, force of desire, and time; and on the different kinds of love. It also teaches the reader different types of embrace, kissing, love-bites, appropriate sounds during intercourse, etc. Interestingly Kama Sutra also deals about subjects on acquisition of a wife, creating confidence in a girl, courtship, different forms of marriage, manner of living with a virtuous woman and her behavior during the absence of her husband. It also deals with behavior with other people’s wives and examination of the state of a mind of a woman. Kama Sutra deals with courtesans and their state of mind, causes of courtesans resorting to men as well as how to deal with them and more. The meaning of Kama Sutra as translated by Richard Burton: "Kama is the enjoyment of appropriate objects by the five senses of hearing, feeling, seeing, tasting and smelling, assisted by the mind together with the soul. The ingredient in this is a peculiar contact between the organ of sense and its object, and the consciousness of pleasure which arises from that contact is called Kama." Sutra is a Sanskrit word meaning a thread, or discourse that is strung together threaded as a series of concise rules and behavioral norms
